This is Jesse Sample. Do you have someone in your life who always has a file cabinet of excuses for why they aren’t where they want to be? Are you that person? Are we all that person, at least sometimes? Sometimes we get in ruts. These well-worn paths don’t seem to lead to good places but the discomfort of exiting them can make it easy to stay there forever.

When’s the last time you shocked yourself? You loved something enough to pursue it through a dark forest of discomfort and fear. And you changed in that space, and you felt so alive. The stale outdated beliefs you had about yourself were exposed as naive paper lies. I’m due for another one of those experiences.

Sometimes we need to change our inner narrative about ourselves. It requires courage but is paid seven-fold in self-knowledge and joy. We, as people, require re-reading and editing.
