I love a good, straight-ahead hard rock album. That’s what Kissing Kaos delivers with To
Your Limit, which will be released May 1 by Mighty Music.
Conceived and fronted by singer/songwriter Joe Flynt, a Georgian best known as the
former singer of Asphalt Valentine for nearly 20 years, Kissing Kaos demonstrates how
themes of rebellion, personal destruction and rebirth are evergreen enough to drive a
powerful album comprised of mostly guitars, drums and vocals.
Flynt is joined in his new group by Asphalt Valentine’s drummer Brian Jung and his
neighbor Chris Taylor, who also plays bass for another hard rock group from Georgia,
Kickin’ Valentina. The songs on To Your Limit showcase Flynt in a slightly lower vocal
register than previously heard, driving hard-charging songs like the title track and Chaos
Inside that take off instantly. Fans of Sixx A.M. and the heaviest Bon Jovi tunes will
enjoy cranking these nine tracks while driving with the top down.
As you will hear in this interview, this is my second interview with Flynt and we talk
about his progression since leaving Asphalt Valentine and the challenges and
unexpected freedom of writing (largely) by himself.
Song clips: “Hey Sugar,” “Breakthrough,” “To Your Limit,” “Yesterday’s Kids.”
Lineup:
Joe Flynt – vocals
Brian Jung – drums
Jon Lansburg – guitars
Chris Taylor – bass
