Lensmenship Speaking Through The Lens: The Sweet Sound of NEKTAR at THE LINDA 3/24/2022 -By: Stephanie J Bartik

On Thursday night, March 24th, I was transported to my teen years, as I listened to the music I loved in High School – Prog Rock! Characterized by classical influences, the use of keyboard instruments, and lengthy compositions, I was brought back to the time I would just be lost in my own thoughts, figuring out life (As much as a 16 year old could figure). I still have a hard time wrapping my head around how today, almost 50 years later, I have opportunities to photograph these bands close up, which I admired so much in my earlier days.
Formed in Germany in 1969 by British expats, Nektar was among the ancestors of the progressive rock movement of the 1970s as well as the jam-band scene that arose in the late 1990s.
Currently, Nektar features three of the original members – Derek ‘Mo’ Moore (bass guitar, vocals), Ron Howden (drums, percussion, vocals) and Mick Brockett (visual environment). Ryche Chlanda (guitar, vocals) and Randy Dembo (bass guitar, bass pedals, 12-string guitar, vocals) World-class multi-instrumentalist Kendall Scott completes the lineup on keyboards and they were joined onstage by Maryann Castello on backing vocals.
The scene played out at “THE LINDA” WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio, celebrating it’s 20th year, this year.
