The Deadbeats & Company featuring Chris Carballeira & Laura Leigh, Lark Hall, Albany, 8pm

The Deadbeats are a Grateful Dead Tribute act with a history of almost 30 years together. They are based out of the NY’s Capital Region and Hudson Valley Region. They have played thousands of shows along the East Coast, from Canada to Key West.

In 2022 the band is poised to go even deeper into the Grateful archive and pull out even more of that classic sound the Grateful Dead catalog emanates. The Deadbeats have grown into a fierce five piece band of friends who love to play together. Longtime members Mike Johnson, Denise Parent and Brian Miller have kept the band together for almost three decades, and they have not missed a beat. Brian Mangini (Ominous Seapods, Raisinhead, Moepods) and Dan Gerken (Danger! Ken, Timbre Coup) recently came onboard in 2019 to add some incredible rhythm and color to the band’s tapestry of sound.

In June 2022 The Deadbeats were voted “Favorite Grateful Dead Cover Band” at The Listen Up Awards put on at Lark Hall by Mirth Films. They also ranked in the top four Favorite Local Bands in the Chronogrammies 2020 and 2021. Saratoga Living Magazine ranked them in the Top Five Local Tribute acts of 2019. They were voted Best Jam Band of 2017 in The Capital Region of NY, and they took second place for Best Cover Band and Best Tribute Band. After almost thirty years, the band is still rockin the music of The Grateful Dead, JGB, Phish, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Band, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, and Janis Joplin along with a healthy supply of upbeat and catchy originals. Currently The Deadbeats play in Kingston and Albany regularly, and can also be found playing all around NY’s Hudson Valley and Capital Region. Their Grateful Dead/Phish inspired shows are a celebration of improvisational, jamming rock & roll. As a result of playing over a quarter of a century together, they have amassed a large and loyal following of fans who appreciate the open ended, participatory nature of their performances.

Working without a net, their set lists, arrangements, and jams are all left open to the inspiration of the particular moment, drawing in the crowd as active participants in the creative process rather than just spectators. It is a unique experience and it has been this commitment to these musical and philosophical ideals that has set The Deadbeats apart. The Deadbeats have an inexhaustible repertoire, and they are always adding more songs to the 300 plus catalog. With such a wide selection its easy to see why audiences walk away with a smile on their faces…..j

The Wheel + Grateful Dead Trivia, Putnam Place, Saratoga Springs, 8pm – 12:30pm

Come on down for a night of Grateful Dead music by The Wheel. Get here early and play Grateful Dead trivia for prizes.

Unlock the door, buckle up, put it in gear and enjoy the ride with the The Capital Region’s authentic Grateful Dead Tribute Band, “The Wheel”. Founded in 2010 by Andy Morse looking to play to his roots of years of chasing the Grateful Dead and current incarnations around he formed The Wheel. It’s been said the medicine wheel is a “peaceful interaction among all living beings on Mother Earth-it represents harmony, balance and connections.”  We like to apply that our live shows the best we can. We’d love to see you.

Andy Morse: (Rhythm guitar and vocals) Known to many a family as Andy “The Music Man” (www.andysings.com) has been a full time musician since 1995 when he hung up his time card and picked up his guitar to become a traveling troubadour bringing music to children’s lives across the county. Andy’s been known to sneak in some GD licks at the family concerts.  He also ran children’s activity tents and performed at major rock festivals across the country since 2000. Gathering of the Vibes, Langerado, Furtherfest and Nateva. Andy studied under Mathew Smith currently of Six String Ranch in Austin TX. Andy also plays with Rainbow Full of Sound.

Bryan Gautie: (Lead guitar and vocals) Bryan joined The Wheel in the summer of 2015 adding his dead on 70’s style of Jerry leads driving the band down the road to colorful destinations. Bryan unknowingly followed a similar path of Jerry, studying bluegrass and then eventually discovering the music of the Grateful Dead. Gratefully he still has all ten fingers. Bryan has played in Ice Nine, Yukon Cornelius and Slipknot.

Jill Gautie (vocals) Hmmm her last name is the same as Bryan’s! Jill has performed in many bands over the years and is able to reach deep down to your soul with her vocals.

Dr. Dave Pallas: (5 string bass) The Dr. is in session! When you’re not sitting on the couch in front of him you’ll find him supporting the back bone of the beat while adventuring into uncharted waters. No life raft needed. Dave has played in many bands over the years, Duck Duck Goose, The Swing Docs, Missing Link. Andy and Dave have been jamming together on a consistent basis since 1985, life long musical friends.

Joe Sorbero (drums and vocals) Joe was born with drums sticks in his hinds with a passion for holding down the rhythm like no other. Joe’s Dad also a life long drummer who helped pave the way that lead him to The Wheel. When Joe’s not on stage with The Wheel you can find him dancing on the skins for the NolaNauts and he’s also a managing partner in The Crescendo Team.

Rick Rothermel (keyboard and vocals) Rick is an animal at the keys, a foundation in the Capital Region music scene. Rick has played with NolaNauts, Yukon Cornelius, School Bus Yellow, Brian Lapoint and many others. Try and stump him on some GD history, you’ll never win.

Dr. Pete Andriakos (percussion) When you’re not on “Dr. Sleep’s” surgery table you’ll find him adding many beautiful colors and rhythmic patterns to complete the canvas. Grateful to have Pete along for the ride as our newest member.

The Cactus Blossoms, Hangar on the Hudson, Troy, 8pm – 12am

“Hey baby, do you wanna take a trip with me? / I’ve got a feeling there might be a silver lining all around.” So begins One Day, the captivating new album from critically acclaimed Minneapolis duo The Cactus Blossoms. Written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, the record explores the tension between optimism and despair that’s defined much of the past few years of American life, examining the power (or naïveté, depending on your perspective) of positive thinking in the face of chaos and uncertainty. The songs here are tender and timeless, with straightforward arrangements centered around brothers Jack Torrey and Page Burkum’s airtight harmonies, and the performances are warm and intimate to match, delivered with a soulful, ’70s-inspired palette of playful Wurlitzer, breezy guitars, and muscular percussion.

The Cactus Blossoms broke out nationally in 2016 with their JD McPherson-produced debut, You’re Dreaming. Dates with Kacey Musgraves, Jenny Lewis, and Lucius followed, as did raves from the New York Times and NPR, who praised “the brothers’ extraordinary singing.” The band was further catapulted into the spotlight in 2018, when David Lynch tapped them to perform in the return of Twin Peaks, and continued to build on their success with their 2019 sophomore LP, Easy Way, which led Rolling Stone to laud the duo’s “rock-solid, freak of genetics harmonies.

Boz Scaggs, The Egg, Albany, 7:30pm

Boz Scaggs spent his teenage years immersed in the blues, R&B and rock ‘n roll. While attending school in Dallas, he played in local combos. After several years as a journeyman musician around Madison, WI and Austin, TX, Scaggs spent time traveling in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, eventually settling in Stockholm where he recorded the album Boz.
Returning to the U.S. in 1967, Scaggs joined the Steve Miller Band in San Francisco, performing on their albums Children of the Future and Sailor, before launching his solo career with in 1968 with the seminal Boz Scaggs LP, recorded in Muscle Shoals, AL for Atlantic Records. Scaggs continued to mine a personalized mix of rock, blues and R&B influences, along with a signature style of ballads on such influential albums as Moments, , My Time, Slow Dancer and 1976’s Silk Degrees. The latter release became a massive commercial breakthrough, reaching Number Two and remaining on the album charts for 115 weeks, and spawned three Top 40 hit singles:  Silk Degrees was followed by the albums Down Two Then Left and Middle Man.

Despite his 70s successes, Scaggs spent much of the 1980s out of the music-biz spotlight, traveling, opening a family business, fathering young children and founding the San Francisco nightclub, Slim’s. He returned to the studio after an 8-year hiatus and released, Other Roads, Some Change, Dig, the Grammy-nominated Come on Home, the unplugged Fade Into Light, the in-concert retrospective Greatest Hits Live as well as a stint touring with Donald Fagen’s New York Rock & Soul Review; all while continuing to maintain a loyal audience in the U.S. and overseas, particularly in Japan. A pair of albums of jazz standards, But Beautiful and Speak Low, the latter topping the Billboard Jazz chart, demonstrated Scaggs’ stylistic mastery, as did the Southern-flavored Memphis and the rhythm & bluesy A Fool to Care, and his most recent release Out of the Blues.
