Jim Barrett’s End of Spring Recommendations MUSIC/VIDEO/BOOKS

Written by on June 7, 2023

First I’m listening to Flavour: a local glam band’s first vinyl release. Killer songs, great playing, cool cover. Kudos to the boys, go see em’ live!

Wet-Leg: British Band quirky odd time changes, weird speak/sing vocals and radical guitars. I love em’ and I can’t quite explain why?

(Steve Moss) Moss: CD Sampler by local DIY power pop artist. Plays all the instruments and sings lead and backing vocals on some of the best American rock I’ve heard in years. Check him out at the Troy River Fest on June 11th.

Jeff beck Live at Ronnie Scott’s: Perhaps the finest guitarist I’ve ever heard, no contest. He spent his entire career trying new things. His interplay with a very young bassist Tal Wilkenfeld is something to behold. He will be missed.

I’ve been watching videos of Dream Syndicate Live from England. The addition of Vicki Peterson (or as Jim calls her, Kathy) on lead guitar is astonishing. I had no clue. Her interaction with Steve Wynn is pure guitar heaven.

I just read the Girl To City: A Memoir By: Amy Rigby One of the most honest documents on a woman in rock that I have ever read. She explains the fun as well as disasters, disappointments and success in a beautiful writing style.
