Kev M – 150 Days of Nothing But Watermelon. Interview by Liam Sweeny.

What are the limits of the human body? If you were stranded on a desert island and only had coconuts to eat for months, would you survive? Kev M took upon himself a quest to go 150 days consuming nothing but watermelon. This is the story of his journey.

Do not try this at home. As if you could.

RRX: You made a pledge to go 150 days without eating anything but watermelon.

How many days has it been?

KM: As of 10/8/23 it’s been 148 days.

RRX: Are you a meat eater ordinarily, or a vegetarian, or vegan? Is this challenge a 180 degree departure from what your normal eating habits are?

KM: I’ve been on the Fruitarian journey for about three or four  years or so. I did a year of all fruit a few years ago and intended then to eat nothing but raw fruits for the rest of my life but I had been having cravings throughout the year and after a year I started giving in to the cravings. I realized I had addictions that wouldn’t allow me to continue on Fruits. So I spent about a year dealing with those addictions, getting to the root cause of them, and once I fully understood exactly what I was dealing with, I began my watermelon journey to get free from the addictions.

RRX: What inspired you to eat watermelons instead of some other fruit. Was it a personal preference, or were there health factors involved in the selection?

KM: Keeping in mind I started this to free myself from addictions to pleasures I was chasing through what I was eating, I chose watermelon because I felt it was the least satisfying of all fruits. I felt to break free from the addictions, I had to deny myself the pleasures I was chasing when eating and I felt watermelon was the best choice, considering it’s about 92-96% h302. Watermelon does not contain water, h20 as everyone thinks, but h302, also known as hexagonal, gel water, or structured water.

RRX: I can imagine it may have been exciting when you started this. Was there a point when you hit a hard spot? A plateau of sorts. Did it get harder at any specific point?

KM: No. I was freed from the addictions on day one of this and it’s the only reason I have been able to eat nothing but watermelon for such a long period of time. I have no addictions anymore, so I have no cravings. I realized cravings are symptoms of addiction. No cravings, no temptations at all, no desires for other things at all. I didn’t set out to do 150 days from the start. I honestly didn’t think I could do one day because just the night before I started the watermelon, I was struggling bad with addiction and found myself digging in my trash to fish out the vegan chips and guacamole I threw away two days ago. It’s a long story but that’s what was happening the night before this. But the day I decided to do this, I was freed from the addictions and everyday has been effortless. No hard spots or plateaus. The only reason I’m doing just 150 days and not more is because I won’t be able to get seeded watermelon much longer.

RRX: Did you talk to any doctors about this? Were there risks you had to manage? Vitamins you had to take?

KM: I didn’t talk to any doctors. Doctors wouldn’t understand this. They would tell me I can’t do this, they would say this is unsafe, dangerous, watermelon doesn’t supply all the nutrients my body needs. It’s incredible the amount of hate I’ve received from doing this. I would’ve never imagined people would dislike me because I’m eating watermelon. But so many people have told me this is dangerous after one week, I’ve even read it online. They’ve said I’m stupid, I’m crazy, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna get sick, watermelon doesn’t provide enough nutrients, I’m deficient, I need protein, etc…but I’ve been thriving, I’ve felt nothing short of amazing everyday. The only reason I’ve come this far is because I felt so good on the previous day, I wanted to do another, and even after 148 days, it just keeps getting better. I haven’t taken any supplements of any kind, I haven’t drank any water, no pills, vitamins, minerals, teas, herbs, 100% watermelon.

RRX: Do you have an overall message to give to people after your time doing this? Have you learned anything about nutrition as this has gone on? About yourself?

KM: Everything we’ve been taught about health and nutrition is a lie. I’ve proven this to myself by eating nothing but watermelon for 148 days as of today. If what we have been taught about our nutritional needs was true, there is no way I could do what I’ve done so effortlessly and thrive. I’ve felt better doing this than I’ve ever felt eating dead animals and processed junk, eating the way we were taught to eat. I’ve learned a lot about nutrition through this experience, about hunger, about hydration, and about what our bodies’ needs truly are. In short, we don’t need any of what we’ve been taught we need. Watermelon has provided everything I need to thrive for 148 days straight. Hydration is far more important than calories and protein and fruits are the only thing on the planet that can properly hydrate us. Human beings are fruit eaters by nature. And there’s so much more I could share But there’s no way I could sum up 148 days in such a short article.

RRX: When you finish the 150 days, are you going to go back to your old diet?

KM: My old diet was fruit, but I fell off the wagon. Now that I’m free from the addictions, the plan is raw fruit for life. I’m a Fruitarian.
