Teaser for this weeks song:
This is Jesse Sample. The following may be extremely obvious to you, but this may be the first time I’m really putting two and two together. I have the house to myself for a couple weeks while my wife is on a trip with her Dad. And sometimes when I’m given the chance to be a bachelor for a couple weeks, I go kinda hard. I dropped her off at JFK on Saturday. I hit a deli in Mount Vernon and have been on a weird kind of trip for the last couple days.
I woke up feeling lethargic and not overly optimistic. And while writing this week’s song, it occurred to me that my steady diet of processed foods, mobster films, and Instagram scrolling may be the reason for my less than stellar attitude. One or two freeze pops isn’t the end of the world and everyone ought to see the Godfather at least 3 times in their life. But engaging in mass consumption of garbage food and violence doesn’t leave me feeling happy. It seems simple but I think I’m just arriving to this party on a conscious level.
This morning, I pulled my lethargic self to kitchen table and wrote and tracked my guitar and vocals. I reached out to Paul and asked him to meet me at John Chiara’s studio to lay down some bass tracks and he did. John Fridholm came through and we had a nice time mixing this thing. The four of us engaged in prolife behaviors and my perspective became clearer. Feeding oneself with art and the company of good people is life affirming. The uninterrupted pursuit of comfort ultimately leads to death.
