This is Jesse Sample. If you hang around actors or perhaps script writing self- help groups long enough, someone will probably suggest you “identify your unfair advantage.” That’s an interesting concept. What am I the best at? What is my unique point of view.

There are faster and more technical guitarists, often in the form of 10-year-old Asian children on YouTube. There are more eloquent wordsmiths and funnier drinking buddies. All the girls in hot yoga are far more flexible and probably more likely to be recipients of free drinks from horny men at bars.

What am I the best at? My mom once told me that “I’m the best at being me!” That might be a start. I’ll take it. I feel most confident about puking out punk rock songs. That is the thing that I do best, for me. I write punk rock songs about heartbreak. About my experience of heartbreak.
