Psychic Raiders – The Weird Side of the Internet – by Liam Sweeny.

One of the things about government secrecy is the fact that, because we can’t know, we’re left to imagine, and inevitably, the actual secrets turn out to be pretty mundane, like the favorite foods of some opposition leader in a country most of us couldn’t find on a map. But once in a while, the government is covering up something that is interesting. For example, lately we’ve been privy to a whole ton of tacit admissions to decades of documented UFO phenomena. And this is probably the most important government revelation, but it’s not the one I’m going to mention.

What about the really bizarre stuff?

From 1970 until 1995, the CIA conducted a psychic program, where, through the use of psychics and telekinetics, they explored finding out about secret, unreachable things, which may have culminated in finding the Ark of the Covenant?

For those of you, all four of you, that don’t know what the Ark of the Covenant is, it is the most holy artifact of the Old Testament, a gilded container, designed by God, to hold the stone tablets that Moses brought down from Mount Sinai. A magical artifact. A lost artifact. The inspiration of a hundred History Channel documentaries, and of course, the first Indiana Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Declassified documents show that they used psychics to find the Ark of the Covenant, presumably to fight the Soviet Union, at least to start. Was this the point, or were the psychics just bored one day? Or is it something that, once you get into the woo-woo stuff, it inevitably descends into aliens, bigfoot, and the Ark of the Covenant?

All in all, we don’t know where the Ark is, though some believe it was taken from Jerusalem to Ethiopia at the beginning of the Babylonian Captivity. But if you can imagine the CIA sending mercenaries out retrieve the Ark of the Covenant with a spoon-bender riding shotgun, it might be true. Maybe that part’s still a government secret.
