Creepy Attic Noises – The Weird Side of the Internet – by Liam Sweeny.
Houses can be noisy. I learned, upon being a homeowner, that house noises mean something different than they do when you’re not a homeowner. Like when you’re not on the hook for repairs, a scratching could be a ghost. When you have to foot the bills, you realize it’s more likely a field mouse with a taste for electrical insulation. But in either case, house sounds can be pretty ominous.
But in Rock Hill, South Carolina, a woman hears unusual sounds in the attic only to reveal a most unusual source of said sounds.
So she hears scratching and moving sounds, and when her kids come over, they tell her she’s hearing things, crazy as a loon. Now, before the big reveal here, you might ask if they said that because they checked and found nothing. But I can say they didn’t check. Because had they checked, they would have gone up there and smelled the pee and poo in cups, deposited by the woman’s ex, who had moved up there from prison.
In all fairness, she did write him in the clink, but she claimed to have no interest in taking him back, and had no clue that he was there. She also had to conclude that he got up there by breaking in the house, which he likely did repeatedly. And the creepiest thing about it was the fact that he shifted the vents so that he could watch her in her bedroom.
It occurs to me now that any sounds in a person’s attic could be the result of an ex living up there after prison, a person who will store their waste in cups. Man, that is creepy. Give me a destructive mouse any day. And commentary here, but what kind of life can you have if your mailing address is a felony in progress.
