This is Jesse Sample. I love attention. It isn’t good for me but if I am to be truly honest, I love busting into a room freshly showered in my long black peacoat intent on talking shit. My friends are more than tolerant and generous. Any person who plays guitar or writes songs has a vivid inner world and they want to express it.

Now that we have the obvious out of the way, let’s examine the price we pay. Being the life of a party feels so good that sometimes we get addicted to it and we create situations where we are selfish and sometimes look silly. Sometimes we can come off needy and childish. I’ve been rude and insensitive in my quest for that high. Attention is a heavy drug and should be used carefully.

In the last few years, I’ve been becoming increasingly aware of where my attention goes. The conversation in my head has been getting more interesting lately. When I focus my attention into the world, things become brighter and deeper. Other people are complex and beautiful and when I give them my attention, instead of trying to get theirs, I feel better.
