I (Justin Smulison) took my first audio sip of Blended Brew about five years ago, when the Danish rock band released their sophomore, blues-inspired album, Shove It Down. Featuring double organ and the wailing vocals of frontman and guitarist Jimmy Månsson, the album provided me with a bright spot during the dark and isolating times of the pandemic’s early days. I had the chance to interview the band at the time and expected to hear more from them quickly, but between the touring limitations caused by the pandemic and external commitments, the creative process slowed down a bit.
But my hopes for a follow-up were finally realized last month when they released Roll The Dice, through the Danish label, Mighty Music. The album is unique in that it was essentially banked 10 years ago – these nine songs were recorded, but not used for their 2015 debut, Hand Patrones.
As the title suggests, Roll The Dice takes its chances with its eclectic mix of rock tunes to wild success, featuring the wailing vocals of frontman and guitarist Jimmy Månsson. I had a lot of fun talking about what it was like for him to revisit these songs and why he gambled on their release.
