Week Twenty-Two: Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week “Summertime Feelgood”

This is Jesse Sample. I was out and about today with a friend. I had a list of things that I should be doing. We were driving through Cohoes, and we saw some girls sunbathing out by the pool. It occurred to me that they may have a better set of priorities. It’s 2pm on a sunny Tuesday and they made this the important thing to do.

Thirty minutes later, I dropped my friend off at his car and went into my studio with a desire to have some real fun with this week’s song. There are many times that my weekly project comes down to me working well past midnight on Tuesday. I’m often tired and just trying to make the song decent and tie up loose ends. Today I started early and allowed myself to stretch out a bit.

Sometimes it’s important to take the time to hang out. We all have a million goals and desires and driving and pushing for them can be fun and rewarding. Today, I was reminded that the experience and the joy of merely hanging out with the people and the things around me is refreshing to my very soul. Guitar playing has always been fun and interesting for me and it’s important for me to always be seeing it as an opportunity, and never a chore.
