Week Seven: Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week “Blue on a Monday Afternoon”

Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week airs EVERY WEDNESDAY at 6pm Eastern ONLY on RadioRadioX.com
This is Jesse Sample. Do you remember your first beer? I don’t but I do remember the first time I felt beer. There was a sense of joy and romance. Maybe the word is euphoria. It felt like all the things that I loved about my 14-year-old existence came into focus. It was night-time and there was rock n’ roll on the stereo in my father’s garage.
Let’s fast forward 30 years to any given night. I’ve had a few scotch and sodas after a big dinner, and for the life of me, I am not experiencing a noticeable effect. What happened? The big dinner can surely account for it but I wasn’t trying to get drunk. Perhaps catch a buzz. A simple moment of perspective where you see the world from a somewhat detached place. For me, it was a less potent version of that first magical first time.
Some guys live for it. Alcohol was never my main thing. I did plenty of drinking in my youth but at the end of the day, pizza and pasta were my things. Whatever the thing is, smashing that pleasure button over and over will eventually lead to diminishing effects. And there comes a point where its barely rendering any pleasure and maybe even causing damage. But I’ll never disparage alcohol or delicious food. For me, I think the thing that I want to address is me smashing the same button and the cost that comes with that.
And tonight, as a treat, you’ll also get the enjoy the funky bass stylings of Gary Ljungquist and crisp clean snap of Jim Dooley on drums. Sometimes you get to work with your heroes.
Thanks to all of you tuned into RadioRadioX. This is the Freak of the Week, “Blue on a Monday Afternoon.”
