Week Twenty-Eight: Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week “Manchild” with Rob Smittix & Bear Campo

One of my favorite parts of this weekly project and songwriting, in general, is when I am called to go an adventure and seek a treasure. It’s not something I control %100. Ideas reveal themselves and new roads appear and you get to make choices. From the words to the instrumentation or from the rhythm to the mix, you are the adventurer, and you shuffle through your own unique toolbox to service the road on which you are walking. It’s like reading a great novel. You may be existing in your kitchen, but in many ways you are far away.
Rob and I got in car at 4:00 pm on a Monday and went on a songwriting adventure. We picked up a friend along the way, that Bear, and set out on the open road of ideas. We applied our character and our talents, celebrated our little wins, overcame our minor setbacks and walked away knowing something new about ourselves.
I’m starting to see songs as ways to capture the emotional essence of the times in my life. This week’s collaboration is how we chose to capture the memory of 3 man-children getting wild in a kitchen in Colonie NY.
Thanks Rob and all of you tuned into RadioRadioX. This is the Freak of the Week, “Man-child”
