Willie Nile at the Linda February 18, 2022 Review by Dick Beach

One rarely expects a bona fide rock and roll star to be humble and a
singular storyteller. Willie Nile is all that and more.
His solo performance at the Linda this evening was entertaining,
energetic and, most of all, personal. The backdrop he provided for
his material shows a man of thought and character. From songs dating
back to 1978 through to his most recent album, The Day The Earth Stood
Still, it is unlikely there are many artists more heartfelt and
compelling.
Alternating between acoustic guitar and piano there were ballads,
tributes and good old fashioned rock and roll. There are other
artists with whom Willie has played where this reviewer has never seen
put an effortless show together in such a manner. Much of the
evening, Willie used the phrase “So many songs” as he free formed his
way through a 2 hour set. Following the show, he mentioned that he
could have played at least another hour, and we all would have stayed.
The highlight of the evening, however, was not a musical performance.
Willie Nile’s father is 104 years old. Willie calls him everyday.
This evening, he phoned his Dad on stage and we all got to listen in
and wished him well.
No more need be said.
