This is Jesse Sample. I am a lover of mundane things. I enjoy trips to the grocery market and eating the same snack food while I watch same Soprano’s episodes. There is a comfort in routines and doing the same thing you always do.

But I also love change. I love the idea that I can learn new things and grow. There is a depth to the mundane. The other person in the checkout line has an internal world full of love, pain, regrets, and dreams. They have people in their lives and long internal conversations. Total strangers hold universes behind their eyes and if we truly extend ourselves, we can better behold the world beyond just us.

This week’s poem was an exploration into the way that I reconcile my comfortable settled territory and my frontiers of love and change.
