Muddy’s Tavern – Interview – BizInt – by Liam Sweeny.

We caught up with Chris from Muddy’s Tavern. This is what we discussed.

RRX: Who are you? What is the name of your business, and what do you make/do?

CHRIS: We are Muddy’s Tavern in Colonie/Watervliet, NY and we are the purveyors of fun!

RRX: If you could only offer one thing, one good, one specific service, that would really show what you’re all about, what is it, and why?

CHRIS: Customer satisfaction would be the one thing to showcase who we are.  It’s because we have a combined 80 years’ worth of working with the public.  Whether it was in the restaurant, interior design, or construction industries.

RRX: What sparked your interest in starting the business you started? Was it something you were already good at? Or did you just jump in the pool nose first?

CHRIS: What sparked us into purchasing Muddy’s is simply it’s something we are good at.  Eddie had taken a respite from the industry and was ready to take the plunge again, so Chris (his wife) jumped on in as well.

RRX: What do you see as your angle? What makes you better than other people out there running a similar business?

CHRIS: Our angle or what makes us better than others is we are owner operated and enjoy the hands-on experience of the everyday machinations of running a bar/restaurant.  The added benefit of being hands-on is getting to connect with our customers and with them, building a relaxed, fun, easy-going atmosphere here at Muddy’s.

RRX: How has the economy affected your business? Setbacks? Any opportunities right now?

CHRIS: How has the economy affected the biz…. well of course the economy can and does affect our everyday.  We combat it by trying new ideas, i.e., food, beverages, and/or promotions, which in the end allows us to grow.  Just as every business needs to regardless of the negative or positive of the outcome.

RRX: What is on the horizon for you? Any new products? Any new offerings? Let us be your sounding board!

CHRIS: Our horizon is limitless of course, but the immediate includes expanding karaoke from just Saturdays to now Monday nights as well (from 7 to 10pm).  Breakfast pizzas and burritos are now here for those Sunday late risers.  It will be offered from noon to 5pm for dine-in, take-out and delivery through our delivery apps.  There is a new menu in the works as well!  Keeping the favorites, tweaking some items, and adding new.  We are even dipping our toes into the vegan world with a couple of offerings to test the vegan waters.  The new menu will be out in June of 2024.
