The Lycan – Interview – Thanks for Asking! – by Liam Sweeny.

RRX: Music genres are difficult for some artists. Some strictly adhere; others not so much. What is your perspective on the genre you play, or the genres you hover around?0

TL: Metalcore would be the closest thing we represent, but there are a lot of Nu-Metal and classic heavy metal influences as well. We try not to stick to a formula too much, and strive to be expressive as we can.

RRX: It’s a lot of fun living in the present, but we all collect memories and give birth to dreams. We’re talking dreams here. Where you see yourself next year? In the next five years?

TL: If we have it our way, we’ll have quite a bit more music out within the next year. We want to hit our scene hard this first year and get to the next level, and have our fanbase grow as much as possible. In 5 years we’d love to be touring full-time with some of the bands we love, that’s the dream.

RRX: Stereotypes are a bitch. I mean, aside from the really bad ones, you have cultural stereotypes about everything, including music.  Would do you think is the stereotype for the music you play, and how far are you away from it?

TL: The stereotype that metal is for angry people, which couldn’t be further from the truth. People are angry when they think they’re alone. Metal is relatable for a lot of people to vent their grievances with this thing called life

RRX: In the musical world, there are many supporting players. Recording engineers, sound techs, cover art designers. Who are three people that support the craft that you would like to shine a spotlight on?

TL: Our producer, Zack Primrose of Primrose Productions, he knew exactly what we were going for and executed it perfectly. Our videographer for our music video, TJ Gibson of Ethera Productions, he’s a super artsy guy and knew exactly how to portray the emotions we were funneling into “Memento”. And Mike Valente, this man helps the entire Albany music scene not only survive, but thrive. Every band in this area should be thanking him

RRX: Tell me about your most recent song, album, or video (you pick.) Tell me a story about what went into making it. Not a process, but a cool story that took place within the process

TL: While filming our music video for “Memento”, Cliff, our vocalist, had the idea to cover himself in blood for the video. After failing to make his own fake blood at home, he outsourced and got real pigs blood. A 5 gallon bucket of it. And after a couple of days, it went real bad. He winded up with blood clots in his toilet and shower trying to get rid of it all. We opted for black paint instead of blood after that.

RRX: Let’s talk about your next project, your next few. Just not the ones you’re working on now. The ones you have your eyes on for the future. What’s coming to us?

TL: More music. We’ll have another single dropping within the next few months with another music video. Our debut concert in April, right in Albany. And more than likely we’ll have a full EP released by the end of the year.
