Alien Journey – The Weird Side of the Internet – by Liam Sweeny.

Some stories, you hear them, and you know they’d make a good documentary. Hell, you could even picture the home screen for the show if it was on Netflix, right? I guess Joe Exotic’s story was that kind of story. But I think I’ve come across another one in the name of Granger Taylor. A Canadian from the town of Duncan, Taylor was widely known as a mechanical wizard, able to fix and restore all manner of mechanized vehicles, including an abandoned train and a WWII plane. He was also known to drop acid everyday and smoke cannabis. So when he left a note telling his family that he was being picked up by aliens and would be on a three and a half year journey, they didn’t know what to think. And that was forty-five years ago.

To be fair, they likely found him when they found his truck exploded from possibly dynamite. They found pieces of bone and his clothes, which is “civil trial” good but maybe not “criminal trial” good. As far as the dynamite, he used it to remove tree stumps.

I’m not saying this has to be true crime, but this could get eight segments, I’m thinking. And I know what you’re thinking: why care about some guy so out of his gourd he’s talking to aliens? Because, and just because, there’s a small chance it’s true. If something’s possible, no matter how remote, you can entertain it, and entertaining a shiny possibility is a lot more fun than facing a dull certainty.

I really feel this groove for a podcast. I think there could be a buzz about this. I’m not saying I have any interest in being a part of any of it. Like if somebody out there happens to be really good at podcast production and for some reason doesn’t have ideas of their own, I’m their Johnny-on-the-spot, is all I’m saying.
