Pigeon Fest – The Weird Side of the Internet – by Liam Sweeny.

Pigeon Fest! Yes! Yay!

So yes, New York City park’s celebrating the lives and times of the city’s most beloved avian – the pigeon. Pigeon Fest will be at The High Line on the West Side on June 14th from noon to 8pm. The ‘fest will have art exhibitions, science demonstrations, and the first of its kind ‘Pigeon Impersonation Pageant.’

There’s also a 17-foot-tall aluminum statue of a pigeon in the park. So really, it’s a good thing they’re putting the ‘fest on here. I have to admit that I think a better place to hold Pigeon Fest would be under the High Line, so that the local honored guests could look on and aim true and Jackson Pollack some cloth-covered card tables.

Okay, so let me share, suffer an oldish man his memories.  So I was an animal collector as a kid, which is what happens when your dad takes no umbrage at the prospect of scooping litter. I had them all, dogs, cats, rodents, lizards, birds. It’s this last one, birds that is relevant. See I had a pair of pigeons, also known as doves. Now I’m sure a scientist will tell me that a dove is not just a fancy pigeon, but I will be unconvinced. So I had two doves, pigeons, whatever, and I learned two things. One, they really do shit a lot. And they love 5 o’clock in the morning. And maybe three that doves really lucked out. It could be worse, right? I wonder if doves feel guilty about the fate of their kin?

Anyhoo, Pigeon Fest. Again, hell yeah, and Yay! I might actually go down to the city, catch that festival and catch a cab with Famous Dave driving, who can hook me up on the great underground New York City eats.
