TONY MASTRIANNI’S: THE RECORD FILE

Best new album release may very well be Paul Weller’s ‘In the Shadow of The Sun, Paul Weller & Band
Live & Very Direct’

Yes, you read that correctly: the title of this infectious Parlophone Records just released double vinyl Paul
Weller’s ‘In the Shadow of The Sun, Paul Weller & Band Live & Very Direct’, a 31-track live album
recorded during his summer 2026 run of outdoor shows, which brought together a phenomenal band and
a spectacular setlist spanning the songs that have defined Weller’s peerless musical journey.
The song collection brilliantly brings together classic tracks and much-loved favorites from across
Weller’s remarkable catalogue, spanning The Jam, The Style Council, and his solo work, (alongside a
cover of a timeless Curtis Mayfield classic, “Move on Up”)
This collection is a new live interpretation of his seamless and timeless work of his glorious Power Pop

70’s as leader of The Jam (You may remember their classic and vibrant sound THE JAM’s alluring, jazz-
tinged; mellifluous sounds of THE STYLE COUNCIL, also his modern infectious live band, and some

solo recordings
The song list for these copious and splendid live recordings reads like a list of Royal British Romantic
Poetry (with some of the finest melodic power pop from Merry Ole, and some solid and seamless rock
guitars). His vocals are often lofty, his lyrics intriguing, and his organ weaving magical sounds—both
acoustic and electric (mostly electric) rock ballads. I will list the titles and recording groups featured on
this brilliant live album as follows: (if no group affiliation is given after each songs, those tracks are from
Weller’s ongoing solo career. Here they are:

In a recent phone interview, Weller’was quoted saying that he hoped these live recordings give justice to
the experience that we and the live audience felt on these recordings. He indicated all tracks were taken
straight off the soundboard. So here we have it past, present, and a glimpse of the future of perhaps the
most underpublicized music legends to ever appear from England, showcasing some 40-plus years of
ear candy accomplishments in one live package! Paul Weller has always been a star. America has not
embraced him to the level of the loyal aficionados’ superstar status he enjoys in England and many other
parts of Europe. However, this live 2-LP takes you on a sonic tour of tight electric-guitar fretting. His
vocals are polished; his guitar is alternately mighty and in stride. He shows no intention of slowing down
anytime soon. Thank you, Sir Paul! Keep building into the future.
