Week Three: Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week “Interlude”

This is Jesse Sample. Webster’s dictionary defines the word “interlude” a couple different ways. One meaning for the word is “a musical composition inserted between the parts of a longer composition, a drama, or a religious service” Okay, when I compile all the Freak of the Weeks into the big album at the end of the year, this composition will be a fine interlude in the musical sense. I’ll stick it right between Week 2 and Week 4.
Webster’s also defines interlude as “an intervening or interruptive period, space or event.” Hmmm…When it’s not strictly limited to the musical context, an interlude has many more implications. How many times in my life could I have written in an interlude? I could have made some space to breath and consider my situation instead of just reacting. You can’t always write one in, for instance, in the middle of the road when there’s a Mac truck seconds away from flattening you. But that kind of a rare situation.
We’re the composers of our lives. I reckon it’s our prerogative to write an interlude into our greater bodies of work. Why should guys like Rodgers and Hammerstein get to have all the fun? Take a minute, think about it.
Thanks to all of you tuned into RadioRadioX. This is The Freak of the Week, “Interlude”
